At Rosey Pot Kindergarten, mindfulness is interwoven into our daily rhythm as a lived practice of presence, gratitude, and connection. Our yoga, mindfulness, and meditation experiences invite children to move gently, breathe deeply, and find stillness within themselves and their surroundings. These practices nurture children’s capacity to notice the sensations of their bodies, regulate their emotions, and engage with the world around them with curiosity and compassion (Department of Education, 2022).
Mindfulness, as we understand it, is not a single act but an ongoing way of being. Through guided breathing, intentional movement, and moments of quiet reflection, children develop awareness of their inner landscape — thoughts, emotions, and sensations — and learn to anchor themselves in the present moment. Such experiences foster neural pathways associated with emotional regulation, empathy, and executive functioning, all of which are foundational to wellbeing and lifelong learning (NSW Ministry of Health, 2021).
Our mindfulness practice also reflects our broader philosophy of education as relational and holistic. When children rest their attention on their breath or feel the warmth of the sun during outdoor meditation, they are participating in a pedagogy of presence — learning that arises from embodied experience, wonder, and connection to self, others, and Country.
At Rosey Pot, mindfulness is a collective act of care: for ourselves, for one another, and for the world. Through these daily rituals, children learn to love themselves and others, to share their hearts with kindness, to marvel at their environment, and to anchor deeply within their own bodies and being.
“Mindfulness is a child’s natural state of being — our task as teachers and parents is to make sure their natural state is nurtured and never forgotten.”
